Expert Witness and Consulting

Dr. Strauch has provided expert witness and consulting services in a variety of transportation cases. He examined equipment design in a major marine case, fatigue and operational safety for an international marine labor organization. effects of electronic highway signage on highway safety, corporate oversight and operational safety in a major school bus accident, fatigue in a motor coach accident, and accident investigation protocols in a railroad labor practice suit. He can bring his experience as an accident investigator, educator, and human factors scholar, to explain safety issues to corporate officials, attorneys, and juries alike.

Report Writing

Dr. Strauch has written a human factors textbook, scientific papers, and multiple reports examining safety and human factors issues and accident causation and prevention. His ability to identify often hidden and unexamined safety issues, and his experience explaining these issues in a scientifically credible and understandable style, has been demonstrated repeatedly. He has repeatedly been asked to provide copies of his articles and reports to those with an interest in human factors, safety, and accident causation and prevention. He can develop and prepare expert opinions, analyses of operators, or other critical human factors and safety issue.

Safety Training

Dr. Strauch has designed and conducted accident investigation and safety training programs for NTSB aviation and marine investigators, US Coast Guard personnel, the Singapore Aviation Academy, Aviation Safety Council of Taiwan, Colombian Air Force, Lufthansa Airlines, and other organizations around the world. Accident Investigation and Prevention

Dr. Strauch can examine complex safety issues that have led to or can lead to incidents or accidents. His up-to-date knowledge of scientific principles of human factors and accident causation has enabled him to identify often hidden issues that have or can jeopardize operational safety. In his over 30 years with the NTSB he has participated in or led over a hundred investigations in all major transportation modes around the world, and has written multiple safety recommendations that, upon implementation, have demonstrably enhanced air carrier, marine, railroad, and pipeline safety. In addition, he has examined and testified on safety issues in post-accident litigation in several high-profile highway and marine accidents, for both plaintiff and defense counsels.
